Well, well.I got a 29er Genesis the other day, almost free. Heaviest bike I ever had!. So I stripped it down and the fork weighs as much as the Frame! Steel bars likewise. Seat post, ect. So I'm gonna try to build a lighter version(1x8 drivetrain, alum of CF where possible, lighter tires ect).If I get it to 30 lbs LOL I'll be happy.

Have you considered any other forks that might be lighter. Manitou stuff is bulletproof but weighty. A simple, cheap Rockshok or(horrors)even hardnose would help keep it light. It not like a hardtail has a mile of suspention travel. Keep the tires on the small side too for less rotating weight. People forget how much fun a liteweight cross country ride is.

Thanks for the advice! All great points and I will keep them in mind when I continue buying parts for the build.
