This Bates (of London) was built up to do distance riding hence the slightly more modern components. It's covered some serious miles since. It's definitely not one for the purists, but I just love the old thing.

Mavic MA 40 laced to 50's Resilion hub. Conti

Mavic MA 40 laced to very rare 50's T F Blumfield Hub. Conti

I figure, if it means the bike staying on the road, being used, then surely using different components that are not all together 'period correct' has got to be better than going to scrap! I love the old gal, I've just dressed her up in some nice jewelery!
