Hey mate, killer build! one of the better looking vigs on here.... im thinking about transitioning from my current pista to a vig next year or so. I saw that you had a pista in the past and my question to you is, how would you compare the two?

hey man! thanks for the good words! To answer your question, aside from the fact that the pista is steel and the vig is alum...there is not an insane difference...when i finally built the vig and took it for the very first ride...i thought there was gonna be a HUGE difference. and there really wasn't. don't get me wrong...the vig is faster, lighter, stiffer, more responsive, tighter, geometry is different and it's smoother on smooth pavement, but...they are both track bikes...they feel the same in that respect in my opinion. As far as steel vs aluminum...the difference is so marginal...yes it is a bit more harsh, but track bikes are track bikes...after 2 full days of riding i didn't notice anything...it's a great bike...dangerously fast. I think the way i have it set up helps smooth out the ride a bit...i'm using 25 Randos which probably helps too. Go for it! it's a shit load of fun to ride! rode it through a snow storm we had here in nyc (not by choice) and held up really well...it's now my everyday, all season bike...at the price tag...it might as well be!...but def holds up true! get it! the vig is infinitely better...aesthetically and functionally. if you got the dough, okay with dropping it on a bicycle and just want the upgrade for the sake of upgrading...it's a no brainer. if you are spinning your head over whether or not its practical...don't do it...i don't think any track bike for street use is practical...unless you are a crazy ass messenger with no fear...don't kid yourself trying to justify it...if you want it...put the right pieces on it...and have a fucking blast!

thanks for the lengthy description... i appreciate that, instead of just "do it"... I'll be running 25c tires all around too. Mostly riding road style, and probably commuting a bit with it too. i'll have to see how things play out financially. I could end up putting the majority of the bits on the pista, and then move them to the vig when i get it. Did the omniums fit on your pista well?

yeah man...the omniums made the ride much stiffer and smoother on the pista...it fits just fine!

Did you sell your pista to fund your cinelli? I'm thinking about doing that..

Yes, fortunately chrome pistas are still in high demand in NYC...sold it for $750 usd because he wanted it real bad, that was his offer. I was asking for $600...go figure. Pistas are supposedly made of very cheap steel and have been known to crack from general use over time...don't know if its true, but...even though it was hard letting go...I don't miss it. If you can get a good price for it, do it...if you don't need the $. Keep it.

hey thanks again for all your help and advice.. i'm selling my pista tomorrow!... another random question... how tall are you? im seeing all kinds of rubbish info on what size to get. i'm about 6' with a 32" inseam. i assume i would be better off with a 56cm? thanks again for your input.
