I have to ask you, do your d.a. crank bolts tighten all the way like other non-self-extractor square tapered b.b., or does it sort of begin to feel like it is ruining the threads? To test, just take the eight mm and see if they are slightly loose after a ride. Perhaps I am just not used to self-extractors, perhaps it tightens but then the bolt will always have a little play. How do yours feel?

I got them in fine. No any play. Tightened them pretty well in first assembly and after few sprints tightened them with normal 8mm. Don't know the moment but they work.
If you leave some play in there you could damage the teeth or the of the octalink or the cranks.
Not a doctor but hope you find solution
