Custom Columbus MAX "Asong Asero" Track

"Asong Asero" means Iron Dog in Tagalog. Made with Columbus MAX tube, this frame set was designed and built with the "AS-KAL" (asong kalye) or street dog in mind: quick, agile and always ready to pounce. With the collaboration of Ave Maldea, our favorite local frame builder, this machine was able to embody all of the characteristics mentioned above.

Frame:

Custom REKTA X MALDEA Custom Columbus MAX: 360mm, rake 20mm / Chris King Soto Voce grip nut

Crankset/Bottom Bracket:
Paul Component Royal Flush / Tange Seki

Pedals:
Sylvan Lite or Shimano SPD

Drivetrain/Cog/Chainring/Chain:
48t:15t / Dura-Ace 15t / Paul Royal Flush 48t / KMC 1/8"

Handlebars/Stem:
Bontrager Race Cyclocross anatomic 40cm / Nitto Pearl 100mm

Saddle/Seatpost:
Fizik / Deda Ø27.2

Front Wheel/Hub/Tire:
H plus Son Archetype 32h / Armor (generic) 32h / Kenda C2C Tinker Juarez 700c x 23c

Rear Wheel/Hub/Tire:
H plus Son Archetype 32h / GOrilla 32h / Kenda C2C Tinker Juarez 700c x 23c

Accessories:
Anti-rust solution, MKS alloy cages, MKS Alpha Fit straps,

More Info:
During the process of building this frame, we realized that because of the shape of the MAX toptube, the most convenient and practical way to go about with the seattube/toptube cluster is to cut a hole thru the toptube and insert the seattube thru it. Just like the GT way. The track ends are a one-off water jet affair. They are made to measure specifically for the angles of this frame's rear triangle. Rock 'n' raw finish for now.

Beautiful bike! Just wondering, is this in Japan? Did you have to register the bike (if you were there for a visit)? Because I saw that local bikes there are registered :)

Very awesome frame all around! but may I ask: what made you go for a straight blade fork?

Posted about 10 years ago

manilanimal

manilanimal says:

why not? all the rest of the frame is tight, compact, angular and stiff in the right places. why wouldn't i go for a stiff straight fork. there's not much rake there to begin with anyway.

Oh, no it's cool. It's just normally when I see that kind of fork with those lugs I think about 1 1/8 in. on a Bareknuckle. I'm use to the flat crown forks like on NJS Keirin bikes.

cool. i prefer the flat crowns with round blades too. most of my other builds has those. but i like these chunky MAX blades too. especially with a ø1" standard steerer. also, they came with the tube set.

Is this frame being custom built for someone? If not how much would a frame like this go for? Those dropouts are sick

Posted almost 11 years ago

manilanimal

manilanimal says:

thanks man. i designed this frame for myself. from the initial drawings to the geometry up to the track ends. worked very closely with the frame builder during the whole process of building it. i don't think i'll ever sell this frame.
