I think you should try to angle the bar down some more and then raise the hoods on the bar to get that flat transition of bar-to-hoods

Yeah, I'll probably do that. I was having some weird hand cramps before, so I moved the hoods down, I should have just tilted the bars down a bit. Derp.

A lot of the time it is funky. I cant tell why it works, but it does. The same goes for road bikes
