Three years ago I bought a Canyon Inflite AL that I had since then rebuilt as an all-around commuting/touring bike by adding some racks, a dynamo hub and lamps. Unfortunately, it has been stupidly stolen in my lobby last February and I've immediately been missing it dearly. Luckily for me, my friend Thomas from Cycles Rouge Gorge/Deroy wanted to try building the bike that would make me forget every other bike I rode until now. The goal was to have a bike that would be the perfect compromise between a commuter, a gravelgrinder, a cyclocross and a touring bicycle : light, responsive and fun enough to enjoy short rides, comfortable enough to enjoy long haul travels, allowing me to fit wide tyres without looking like a fat bike, with a sleek but yet practical design that could welcome racks or bags, dynamo equipped for non-hassle lightning,.. ... a Swiss-Army knife of a bike. The One Ring(-ring) that would rule them all. Six months later, I'm so excited to say that we've succeeded. The bike is perfect, the frame is gorgeous and exactly how I wanted it, the wheels built by Gilles at Karma Wheels spin like hell and light my route at the same time. I can't wait to pile up the miles on it.

nice one, but that seatpost is scary.

Scary ? Why that ? It's one of the most comfortable seatposts there is and Canyon has been using it in hundreds of thousands of bikes for years.

really nice build, how are the Velocity rims handeling?
Posted over 7 years ago
I'm a pretty heavy rider (220lbs) and I wanted rims that wouldn't feel too elastic. The rear OC in 32 holes feels stiff while the front is pretty light (the non dynamo one weighs just 1kg in 28 spokes+hope pro2 hub+hope 160mm disc. I'm really happy with my choice.

How's the gear ratio treating you?

Very well. I’m servicing the transmission right as we speak : 6000km and the cassette/chain/chainring need some replacement. However, I’m keeping the 38 chainring and the 10-42 cassette. I’ve climbed the Alpe d’Huez, and other mountain passes without issue (and god knows I’m not nuit for such climbs, weighing 100kg), done gravel and cyclocross, ridden road brevets (300km in 12hrs, 630km in 29hrs...).
I ride comfortably on flat and well enough on climbs. In other words, I don’t regret my choice.

Awesome, i am building a Gorilla Monsoon and ending up going with the same ratio you’re using. Unsure if i’ll spin out on flats. Your response is reassuring.
Cheers

If you don’t plan on pushing at 45km/h on flat you’ll be ok. ;)
