Pfeiffer Fixed Gear Conversion

Custom road racing frame purchased/built in April 1989. Lot of sentimental value so I really wanted to get it back on the road again and a Fixed Gear conversion fit the bill. I'm going to lace up some new wheels so temporary (cheap) Mavic CXP33/Formula rear wheel right now.

This is looking great with the omniums! What are the new wheels going to be?

Thanks. I haven't decided yet. They will definitely be "understated" - the CXP33s are about as aero as I want to go. Mostly looking for an excuse to lace up my first set of wheels in 15+ years. Open to suggestions.

As you're running a front brake I would go for silver rims, as the brake surface doesn't show that much.
Some Mavic Open Pro's laced to some nice hubs, for example Dura Ace 7710 or Phill's? Would be really nice.

I can't argue with that suggestion - no lack of quality! Open Pro's were on my short list. Phil's were a bit more than I was planning on popping for but they sure hold their value (and last forever).

Well, Phil's are really expensive IMO, you could go for something a bit cheaper. But there is some sort of gap between "cheap" hubs, like Miche (which I really like) and "expensive" hubs, like DA, Campagnolo, Mack and Phil. I can't really think of a hub that comes in between.

Concur. I'm not sure if I will go cheap or expensive at this point (the Miche hubs sound interesting). Though expensive is always cheaper over the longest run - the front Record hub is still smooth as silk 20+ years into its life. Know it is not preferred usually but I think I want to keep a road front hub with Q/R. I end up throwing a bike up on my roof rack more than I need to keep it secure locked up. I wonder if it would look good going with a rear Campy Pista hub and re-lacing the front vintage Record Hub to the Open Pros.

I was thinking of that (riding a 7710 hub rear and wanted to go 7700 road on front). But sounds good man, and it'll be a bit cheaper.
