Sold! So the bike shop sold the cheap Santa Cruz Highball I wanted to someone else. An impressively tall 14 year old I hear. So now I have to save up for thi years Highball which is like $1600 bucks for the base model, so I wont have a mountain bike until this summer probably. :(d

Hey just a heads up: from what I've been reading you should try to move your rear wheel further forward as it will give the bike better handling.

Yes, shorter wheelbase = snappier handling. I also need to just because the axle is barely in the dropout and the axle nuts hang off the end a bit. I plan on it I've just been too lazy to take a link or two out of the chain.

haha cool. yeah get that chain shorter. I can imagine the axle nuts slipping if they arent fully gripping the track end either. Mine is supposed to be delivered today. Im stoked.

Sweet man! I am about to buy a 20" KM as well. I'm hoping its the best size for me. How tall are you? and how is the feel of the 20?
Posted almost 11 years ago
It's huge, I'm 6'1" and I feel really stretched out on it, I'm getting a 40mm stem to pull back the reach which should help. It depends on how you want to ride it though. I don't know enough about mountain bike fit to give you any lucrative advice. But it feels too big compared to my 59cm (575mm tt) track bikes if that gives you any frame of reference.

It's super fun to ride though! It's a great bike you'll love it when you get it. My buddy Carl is about 5'11" or 6' and has the 18" it seems to fit him fine, I'm thinking I should've gone with it instead, but it might just be that I'm not used to the feel of mountain bike fit

I just went down to the shop and swapped out for a 70mm stem and it fits perfect now! So if you do go for the 20 you may need to swap stems for something shorter but then you'll have nice snappy handling so that's a plus for my riding style at least.

hmmm thanks for the info. I'm 6'4" with about a 36" reach and 32-33" inseam. my 59cm steamroller feels good to me. The one I'm buying has a 130mm stem on it, but I have a 100mm I'm swapping it for right away. I've always liked slightly small frames for flickability so now I'm a little nervous.

Oh I'm sure you'll be fine then, you've got three inches on me, which is a lot when it comes to bike fit it'll probably feel just right to you.
