I use to ride a bmx bike when I was in middle school and was egotistical about fixies because I was riding a bmx. Then, highschool came along and I did end up getting a fixie frameset and grabbed all of the parts next because I couldn't afford a complete bike. I mean I think that is the whole purpose of what makes a really good bike is that overtime there is no such thing as an original complete bike with the use of different manufacturers on a build.
