still playing with some parts to see what feels good in this thing. This, as you know, is a "work frame". It's supposed to be utilitarian, and that's what I'm building. A ride that is comfortable to beat around town on, scrape up, skid up and down the street, get wet and muddy and rusty. I'll save the fancy Phil Wood for my dream bike....btw, anyone have a 54cm GT US Olympic National Team frame in mint condition they want to give me?

this is how I am going to leave it through winter...I hope. Big wheels make a huge difference, easy to roll over crap, hard as hell to stop

I'd be super interested in buying the frame if you ever decide to sell :)

I love these frames with knobby tires. This bike looks like an excellent shred sled.

I'm thoroughly enjoying the evolution of this build. Nobbies and risers is the best combo imo.

Very nice man. Love seeing these frames with knobby tires.

Better get on that Phil Wood Crankset soon! This year (2016) is the last year they will be producing them. I was told somewhere around 60 would be made and then it will officially be discontinued from them.

great ride dude! and buying all the perfect parts at the same time would be sooo boring, because you dont know how to spend your money in the next few month ;-)

Thanks man! I agree, half the fun is having to re-buy half the shit you put on because it's not "PERFECT YET". Lol

looks so good! i love this frame. thomson stem, wider bars, different grips, a front rack and it would be perfect! also, about the rust, it has a clearcoat so it really shouldnt rust at all
Posted about 9 years ago
Thanks! I went with a cheap strm from the bike shop down the street, and had some old short bars laying around, i see now the error of my ways.... Will change.
Posted about 9 years ago
hey man its extremely ridable right now dont let us snobs get you down! BEAUTIFUL bike. those were just the lil finishing touches to make it perfect! also upon further inspection when you do get your thomson stem cut that steerer tube!

The clearcoat definitely does not prevent it from rusting. See:

DAMN^ that looks sick but once it got to a certain point i would definitely look into some kind of metal stuff that preserves patina and is reapplicable. sizemore bicycles comes to mind
Posted about 9 years ago
looks ok, put some grip on if you are going to keep the drops. what about riser bars like you originally had but wider?
Posted about 9 years ago
Here are your wide bars lol, still waiting on the Thompson stem

Nice build! I think it'll rust inevitably in spots and match your saddle haha. Align those tire logos with your valve for maximum street cred!
Posted about 9 years ago
Good point on the rust, looking forward to that. I've never thought about logo alignment, will be my project for the day! Lol
Posted about 9 years ago
Done, it does ride a bit smoother with the logos aligned...

that frame looks like 50-51 cm tho. it's sweet, keep it like that.
Posted about 9 years ago
Does look small but it's because it's because the wheelbase is short and its tall. Looks sqaushed
Posted about 9 years ago
Different cranks, time atacs, and wider bars are the only things i'd change. Nice build!

Thanks man! Like the input. I was thinking mountain bars and knobby tires for the dirt trails.

Beautiful! How's the C15?
Posted about 9 years ago
Awesome, thinner than the C17 so it fits me better. Also the cutout gives it more flex and takes a bit of weight off.
Posted about 9 years ago
How tall are you riding a 53?
Posted about 9 years ago
I'm 5'9". But have a short inseam. 54's are just a bit big. I feel good on a 53, though this one feels a bit taller
