This is my favorite out of your stable. Both setups are awesome! Really proper. Your bikes are so big, I feel like in person I would be staring up at your saddle haha

Thanks! It's getting a C-Record Chorus group now. So it'll be back to silver components and Shamals. My friend stripped and polished the cranks http://i.imgur.com/JNyoaJd.jpg

I'm gonna be the lone voice of dissent and say that it looked better with the old 105 group you had on here. No beef against the build, it's solid. But I would've gone with a Chorus 8-9 group.

Honestly, I think I might agree with you about the looks. I loved the bike when it looked like this: http://i.imgur.com/LTzhO.jpg . I might be getting a new road frame soon (I'm not releasing the details quite yet, all I'll say is that it's carbon and modern) so I'd probably transfer the Chorus to that and use my extra Record 10s titanium group (Silver cranks, carbon, silver and titanium derailleurs) with this bike along with my Shamals, an older Campy headset, my silver Cinelli bar/stem combo, and my silver T setback. But, for now, The Chorus group will stay. And it's not like it looks bad how it is now. And it rides so much nicer than before.

It'll look better once I get some proper photos though.

stalag13

stalag13 says:

Oh, I'm sure the ride is superb. And no, it doesn't look bad. But carbon and vintage have always struck an odd balance for me. I've seen others attempt this kind of paring, and it never sits well with me. But I bet it's a blast to ride, and still a head turner.

BOOM. I vote for removing the decals from the wheelies. And a photoshoot against a lighter background, get this babay poppin. Let me know how you like the Chorus, as I'm definitely going to upgrade the Moser frame I acquired very similarly to your Bianchi. So beautiful!

PandaBear

PandaBear says:

how does that hed. disc feel?

Posted about 13 years ago

SillyGooseCookie

SillyGooseCookie says:

hmmm... It is heavy. I once tried to climb Sand Hill Road with it (my rear Shamal was out of dish, so I had to use the disc) while carrying 4 full water bottles (2 for me, 2 for my friend who didn't have bottle cages) and it was pretty damn impossible. And I was having shifting problems, so I had to do it with a pretty high gear. Coming back down the hill was a lot of fun though, you can really feel the aerodynamic advantage of the disc when you're going fast. Also, it is slightly untrue, so it does wobble a bit, especially at low speeds.

Posted about 13 years ago

PandaBear

PandaBear says:

Wow sand hill road is tuff for sure lol. I've been there as well with my front brake, bullhorn setup. I really like how disc look. Why haven't you trued it?

Posted about 13 years ago

SillyGooseCookie

SillyGooseCookie says:

There's no spoked wheel underneath, it's just two pieces of carbon fiber bonded to the rim. So yeah, there's no way to true it. I've contacted HED. about it, and they say the same thing. it's not that bad, I just have to open up my brakes a little bit and not ride no-handed. :P

Posted about 13 years ago

PandaBear

PandaBear says:

oh really I did not know that. Yea don't ride your bike no handed with an untrue wheel it would equal bad results lol.. Well it looks awesome on your bianchi no matter if its true or not ;D

Posted about 13 years ago

SillyGooseCookie

SillyGooseCookie says:

haha yeah I've tried it before. the handlebars and front wheel shake side to side a bunch. and thank you! :D

Posted about 13 years ago

stalag13

stalag13 says:

I would not ride around with an out-of-true carbon disc. With carbon, that means failure. It's probably the reason why you picked it up for so cheap. That thing is bending to a shape that it wasn't meant to hold, to say nothing of the ride qualities you've already experienced.

Posted about 13 years ago

SillyGooseCookie

SillyGooseCookie says:

I got it checked out at my LBS, it's actually safe enough to ride. The largest problem is that it wobbles a bit.

Posted about 13 years ago

jdawg4334

jdawg4334 says:

hahaha, your disc is untrue? hahaha, we should put my hed 3 on it so you can have two untrue carbon wheels. hahaa.

Posted about 13 years ago

SillyGooseCookie

SillyGooseCookie says:

it adds an extra challenge to riding hahahah. Not really though, it's only really a problem when I ride without hands. I think the HED. 3 would actually look really bad-ass. Hopefully I can find an older one (maybe when they were made by Specialized) that's a clincher and not too much money.

Posted about 13 years ago

jdawg4334

jdawg4334 says:

damn dude, that thing is sick as fuck! ive wanted a classic road bike for ever now, simply beautiful. and look at that rear clearance!

Posted about 13 years ago

SillyGooseCookie

SillyGooseCookie says:

Thanks man. And yeah, the tight geometry is great. I don't usually see too many older road bikes with tight clearance, it's usually only track bikes.

Posted about 13 years ago

stalag13

stalag13 says:

That's cause it's a crit bike. They're made for tighter clearances and shorter wheelbases, for racing crits.

Posted about 13 years ago

SillyGooseCookie

SillyGooseCookie says:

Thanks for the info! I thought it might be a crit bike since the original tires say "criterium" on them.
