Apparently it was built for the US Olympic team under Yamaguchi (maybe?) to test out new geometries as well as get the riders prepared for GT's Super Bikes. This specific bike has been in multiple art museums. Blue paint was splattered on all the decals by the previous owner, so I'll have to scrub that off at some point.

Definitely one of the raddest frames I've ever seen, and the build does it justice. Good job, also I wanna say the risers and Sugino CHCD build is insane

Without doubt, one of my favourite builds of all. It's got everything, triple triangles, 24 inches... just needs risers again.

Ha cheers man, yeah I love the corima, when I found it, it had been sat in a shed for more than 10 years, was in a sorry state with shitty miche gear and a quill adapter. People on here look at it and think I've perverted a classic, I reckon I rescued it!

Oh man, I gotta hear the whole story on how you found the Corima! If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for it? And I think some people really need to chill out, bikes are meant to be enjoyed and ridden. I personally think it looks totally badass with the risers.

It was on eBay, collection only from some back water town in Yorkshire, took 3 trains to get there and pick it up. Think I won the auction for the full bike for about £380? I've got the photos from the eBay ad saved on my laptop keep meaning to post them on here. Exactly the point, it's a fun bike to ride to the pub on a sunny day, or on a cruise. I have LA84s and an ergostem as well, but it's like a 62cm TT I think so pretty long!

To be honest plan is to slowly build it up into a period correct-ish build with lots of Corima and French parts, keep it with risers as a pub bike, then if I ever need cash to shift it on ebay to some rich collector.

HHSB mode with the black LA's and the rolls - that's hella bauss! Not feeling the starfishes, looks out of place and doesn't meld good enough with the rest of the build. Would fuck with the Campy BMX cranks though.

thanks! I'm kinda diggin the starfishes so far, and they would've been original to the bike. Well, that or DA 7600 depending on the year it was being ridden. The BMX's are fun cranks, but I've been considering selling them since right now they're just sitting around.

This is an awesome bike but it was not built by Yamaguchi.
Yamaguchi never built a single GT.
It's a myth.

Thank you! And I'll admit it's wishful thinking to believe that this was a Yamaguchi-built frame, I'm just going off of what the previous owner told me. But Yamaguchi did build GT's for the US team, as well some of the Huffy-branded carbon/aluminum olympic frames for the 84 Olympics. And it's no coincidence that some of the GT pursuit and tt bikes share the same tubing and geometry as Yamaguchi's Kilo TT's

He did not build a single GT for the US team.
I personally talked with him for hours about it when I took his 2 week frame building class.

I never built frame under GT brand. But I work with USAC/USCF '88~2004(USA Cycling Association. Former US Cycling Federation) at the time did work with GT. but my job is mostly consultant for the US national team bikes.
Back then, GT had a small custom frame factory in Longmont Colorado run by Forrest Yelverton. This shop are only built steel frames. Ti and Alu. Frame are from CA GT factory. Mr. Tiermeyer are assignd for built Aluminum time trial frame.
Road frames: 93~96 GT national team bikes use True Temper. 97~2000 GT bike are Reynolds tubing.
GT's Sr# start with USA are made for the national team use.
National team GT road fork offsets are 45mm. With internal fork crown, raked fork blades (not straight blades) and Henry James dropouts

It's a cool, rare bike with a story behind it.
But I have found it's a myth people would like to believe to make a frame more valuable on eBay. Great for the seller. Bad for the owner.

Thanks. I'm terrible at doing wheelies, so I wouldn't know. It seems like it would be harder though, since more of your weight is over the front wheel.

Love this. Great find. I hope to own a Yamaguchi GT at some point. Was surprised to see this didnt have the usual red/white/blue paintjob. Killer either way though.

The sizing is really strange, but it works out to be about a 61cm. And I got it from some guy at a swap meet where I was a vendor. And I sold enough stuff to just about break even at the swap meet, so I'm still saving for the Parlee.

I'll switch the stem out to like a 90 or 100mm with bullhorns so the reach won't be quite as long

Post it! And your dropouts must be the SFP-10's not the UFP-10's like these ones (if they're Shimano)

it's still in an awkward stage...with borrowed parts, along with some ehh parts. it deserves to be displayed in all it's glory and right now it's built to be rideable. and I actually need to double check on the drop outs to see if they say shimano. if it did, would it be yamaguchi built? just asking cuz mine looks really similar to this frame minus pursuit geo

I think I can get it to fit decently well. The top tube actual is 66cm C-C, but the virtual is 61cm C-C, so it fits like a 61. I'll run both pursuit bars and risers, depending on how much reach and drop I want. Drops would be too crazy!
