1994 Eddy Merckx MX-Leader with custom paintjob. I found the frame, size 54, NOS, and I built it with a mix of vintage and new periphericals, in order to respect as much as possible the stiffness of this frame : Shamal, Ultra torque, Cinelli Grammo Titanium... The bike wheighs an exact 9 kilos thanks to some lightweight components (1990 Flite Titanium, Skeleton brakes, Campagnolo Record carbon seatpost,...) even though I really didn't try to look for the lightest build possible.

How did you convert your rear shamal to 10 speed?
Posted over 11 years ago
Once you find the compatible free wheel body and the compatible cones, it is not very complicated. Luckily, I found these spare parts quite easily on a dead Zonda wheel. But if you gotta buy them new, you'll have to cash around 200USD...

I've been reading about using an 90's athena freehub body on the record hub. Apparently, they produced these for some years without the larger axel. You're right, I would rather know something will convert over spending 200. Wouldn't mind getting more life out of my shamal once I ditch 8 speed.

i would sell my right ball for that. although i have the same paintjob on my merckx, i like it way more on a steel frame
Posted over 11 years ago
The same ? Exactly the same one ? Red, dark blue, pearl white and a touch of gold ? I never saw any other merckx with such a paintjob, that's why I assumed it was a particular request from the first owner. But if you confirm it's the exact same, than we have a new hint in this story. :p
(Keep your balls, it's not for sale. At least, not for the moment. :D )

exactly the same. you can visit it on my page. also i saw this paintjob on a another merckx road frame from about 2005. let me know if u ever think of might selling

This is interesting, as there is a 14 year difference between Blokk's pista and this bike here. Having the same paintjob, especially one as unique as this, would seem unlikely. And yet...?

Thank you all and the team of Pedal Room for the featuring of my bike.
It's the first of my 2-wheeled-friends I'm posting here but it'll be soon be joined by a bunch of others. Hope you'll like them as much as I do. :)

shamal!!!

I'll be climbing the Stelvio in one month. I'll replace them by Campagnolo Neutron Ultra for this purpose. But I love the look the shamal give to the bike !

I would change the stem and the seatangle. Then perfection!
Posted over 11 years ago
The seat angle has changed since then. I needed a few dozens of kilometres on this to refine the settings. The stem won't change. It's "period correct", stiff, light and gorgeous. And also it's the exact length I need: I'm not very tall but have quite long arms. ;)

Very proper build,as you say, respectlul.Awesome repaint, better than original design.
Posted over 11 years ago
Thanks for the compliments. Although the frame hasn't been "repainted". It has been painted in the merckx factories when the frame was built. I don't know whether it's as merckx' merckx's decision or a request of the first owner. I only know it was originally offered by the trainer of a semi pro team to one of his riders who never rode it as he needed a size 59 frame.

Damn that's a clean build.

Thanks ! I'll just replace these cheap pedals and tyres in a few weeks and I think it will be perfect : I just couldn't wait to ride it so I used what I had in stock. :p

I'd call it perfect right now. Those Shamals go with that paint scheme really well.
