54cm GT Pulse

Finally got my hands on a Pulse, and I love it! The high bottom bracket prevents pedal strike when flying around corners in the city and it's a pretty fast ride without being too harsh.

Frame:
54cm GT Pulse - Kinesis aluminum

Fork/Headset:
Stock Kinesis aluminum fork, Dura-Ace headset

Crankset/Bottom Bracket:
Dura-Ace FC-7600 NJS cranks, Dura-Ace BB-7610 sealed-bearing NJS bottom bracket

Pedals:
MKS GR-9, MKS clips, MKS Fit Alpha NJS straps

Drivetrain/Cog/Chainring/Chain:
Surly 18t cog, Sugino 75 46t chainring, KMC 710SL chain

Handlebars/Stem:
3TTT Forma SL bars, 3TTT Pro Light titanium stem

Saddle/Seatpost:
Selle Italia Flite saddle, American Classic titanium seatpost

Front Wheel/Hub/Tire:
Velocity Deep V laced to a Paul hub

Rear Wheel/Hub/Tire:
Velocity Deep V laced to a Paul hub

Awesome ride! How do those Paul hubs compare to Phils?

Posted over 10 years ago

Coomer

Coomer says:

They're a bit lighter, but I don't notice a difference when I'm riding at all. Both are excellent choices.

how does thing ride with the aluminum fork?

Posted over 10 years ago

Coomer

Coomer says:

It rides pretty nicely. The ride isn't very stiff for an aluminum frame/fork, much less stiff than the Cannondales or Fuji Track Pro or the Tiemeyer.

I didn't realize I misspelled your name, sorry! I was wondering how do these ride in terms of long rides? I have yet to try an aluminum frame.

Posted almost 11 years ago

Coomer

Coomer says:

No problem! The Pulse specifically is fine for me on longer rides, often I'll ride it sixty miles in a day. Other aluminum frames like my Fuji, Cannondales, and the Tiemeyer are significantly stiffer and not as comfortable on longer rides.

Are you running a 3/32 set up? How does the Pulse compare to the Cannondale Track you had before? I agree with your description of how the Pulse feels precisely. Glad you're enjoying the bike.

Posted almost 11 years ago

Coomer

Coomer says:

Nope, it's all 1/8". I found the Cannondale to be stiffer and felt like I could accelerate a bit faster on it, but it was just so stiff that it would beat me up on long rides.

The Pulse I find to be a lot more comfortable and still pretty quick.

Love these GT's, great build! I'm thinking of picking up some Dura-ace 7600's, whats your BB spindle length? I have a 102mm ISO, so I was wondering if that would be fine.

Would 102 be too small?

Posted almost 11 years ago

Coomer

Coomer says:

Yeah, 102 would probably be too small. I think the chainring would hit the chainstay.
