Nice frame painting, looks great!!! Just wondering if the frame model is the same as FF-R018 from speedercycling.com, http://www.speedercycling.com/Carbon-Bi...
Posted over 10 years ago
such a bummer you had to sell it :/
Posted about 11 years ago
Hahaha, I know! It unfortunately was a terrible fit so it was for the best!
Posted about 11 years ago
How much weight can this frame hold? And how much do you weigh?
Posted almost 12 years ago
Hey jdawg, I like this build, is this similar to the china-carbon track frames on alibaba.com? I wanted to buy one, but dunno if it was legit or not. Any comments at all, would be greatly appreciated. Oahu cyclist (leader 725).

Hey dude, I searched the website and found the TP-R810 which turns out to be exactly this frame. The seat tube on this bike (even on the one that I owned which was a 58cm top tube c-c) is extremely short. For me, even though I had the seat positioned way to high, if the seat were at its correct height, the seat post would still have been way past its minimum insertion line. On top of that the seat post clamp mechanism breaks the frame were the seat post is inserted. My clamp area was cracked but it still held the seat post in place so I'm not quite sure of the severity of this detail. Other than that the bike sprinted very fast and comfortably, was very light, looked very good, but was not the stiffest frame I've ever ridden. There's my two cents on this bike. I would definitely buy another one assuming that it came with the correct length seatpost.
Posted almost 12 years ago
How tall are you and what happened to your youtube?
Posted almost 12 years ago
Hahaha, wayyyyyy too short for how I had this bike setup! I'm 5' 10.75". 58cm top tube with a 110mm stem? I have no idea how I managed that! And on top of that, the seat was at least 3 - 5cm too high.
I now prefer a 54cm top tube c-c with a 130mm stem or a 55cm top tube c-c with a 120mm stem and I think that they both fit me perfectly.
And I deleted them all because I get trolled on pretty hard. Hahhaa.
Posted almost 12 years ago
oh i see haha we are like the same height
and thats to bad i rily liked your youtube it rily got me into biking and was a huge inspiration oh well :)
Posted almost 12 years ago
Awwww. :/ Well I'm glad that you actually enjoyed them unlike everyone else! That was the point of making them!
Posted almost 12 years ago
What was the drop degree on that thomson X2 stem?
Posted about 12 years ago
Any stem that is level with the ground is 17 degree. 72 - 75 degree is the typical range of head tube angles so that puts the stem at 89 - 92 degrees which is basically level with the ground.

fucking china carbon
Posted about 12 years ago
Hahaha, and your carbon frame with a threaded headset, risers, and clips and single straps is sooooo much better.
Posted about 12 years ago
did u take a look at the track set up? lmao. the crankset on there is worth more than your whole bike
Posted about 12 years ago
Hahaha, my apologies. Thought you were speaking with malice.
And yes, those cranks are quite admirable. They were the second thing I noticed after the Zipps.
Too bad they're your step dad's. ;]
And this is my street setup boii. Get on a masher's level!
Posted about 12 years ago
does your back ever hurt? cause i noticed all your bikes have realy agressive positioning
Posted about 12 years ago
No. I get very minor back problems. However, this bike was a little more drastic than my other bikes. I pretty much never held the drops on this one. My back was pretty much parallel to the ground when I was holding the hood area.
Sold it cause it was too uncomfortable for my neck.
Posted about 12 years ago
can you recommend me some clipless pedals and shoes? looks like you us shimano pedals most of the time.
Posted about 12 years ago
forgot something, I want to use clipless pedals in the city (with all the stop-and-go) and a quite low ratio (48x18, later 48/17). thx in forward
Posted about 12 years ago
I can help you with that. I would recommend getting Shimano 105 pedals (around $70-80). As for shoes, Shimano makes a great starter shoe that will be great for city riding as you described. It is called the R077 road shoe. It can run anywhere from $60-80 depending on where you shop. This is a great set up. If you want more high performance, you can go with Dura-Ace pedals and SIDI or BONT shoes. But that's if you have a large budget. :D
Posted about 12 years ago
Sidi or Bont? You're so lame! What about Giro, Bontrager, Pearl Izumi, And even Shimano? Hahaha, they make good shoes too, not just Sidi and Bont.
Hahaha, dude, get whatever pedals you want, I wouldn't spend less than 200 dollars on shoes. Trust me, I've had low end shoes, they're not even worth trying on.
Posted about 12 years ago
Jon, the first example I gave was a Shimano shoe. I was helping him out, and then gave my personal favorite shoes, which are Bont and Sidi. (Bont being the best in my opinion). I never said those where the only two brands that make great shoes.

i really dig this bike i like how you put a custom look to it! really dope dude!

The frame is sold on EAI.
http://www.euroasiaimports.com/productc...
I don't know how to buy it but there it is. A similar frame with a front and rear derailleur brazing is sold on Ebay as well.
The one on Ebay is around $700 shipped and I sold this frame for $400
All the other parts are probably around $850, used price.
Posted over 12 years ago
any idea how much does it cost the previous owner on the frame? n what do u thk of this frame? light and stiff?
Posted over 12 years ago
Not stiff at all, not when compared to an alloy frame. If you ride it for a while, you can't feel it anymore, but the first time you ride a steel frame, the differences in stiffness is completely noticeable.
And the previous owner paid like, 1500 for the frame, original fork, Easton track stem and bars (the EC90 track stuff), FSA carbon track cranks, a San Marco Aspide Superleggera, the Cane Creek wheel that I had (he traded it to me with the frame), a front Hed 3, and the highest level Look Keos. Idk what they're called.
So... he got an amazing deal!
But alone, the frame retails for about 600 - 700 bucks on Ebay. Unfortunately, they stopped making this frame a long time ago and now make a TT version of this frame and there are some slight differences between the two. Apparently, you can purchase this frame off of EAI's website.
http://www.euroasiaimports.com/productc...
So with that one, the only difference is the seatpost collar.
With this one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Full-Carbon...
The seatpost collar is different as well, the dropouts and seattube have derailleur brazings, and the seatube wheel thing, like, how the seatube hugs the wheel, it doesn't do it as much as my frame. Near the top of the bend, it like, stops and goes off at a different angle.
Hard to explain, but aside from those differences, they'll all essentially the same frame.

If the 'enter's would have gone through, that would have been easier to ready. Sorry.
Posted over 12 years ago
no lockring on the disc? been locking for a track adapter. Kalavinka one is hard to get.
Posted over 12 years ago
Nah, the disc is meant for 7 - 8 speed freewheels. TERRIBLE chain line too.
And yea, idk how all of those things work but I never bothered trying, it seemed like too much trouble for a damaged disc that wasn't even practical whatsoever. I think that the Surly Fixxer works pretty good. I see people use them on Hed discs all the time.
Posted over 12 years ago
I love this bike so fing much.
Posted over 12 years ago
Hahaha, thanks man. I really liked it too! It's by far my favorite bike.
Posted over 12 years ago
Hows your water bottle rack clip to saddle, I have the 1st generation water rack, i dont think i can do that
Posted almost 13 years ago
Oh, it has this little plate that sits over both of the rails and then the water bottle part has a plate just as wide and they screw together over the rails.
Posted almost 13 years ago
*speechless*
i can't imagine how it feels like to ride a carbon frame. i'm a big fan of Hi-Ten steel and reynolds. i never look twice on carbon frames...
but this setup is sick! :D *two thumbs up!*
Posted almost 13 years ago
You should really get matching wheels it would look a whole lot nicer. Do you apply any carbon paste with the seatpost or you install it dry? I just got my first carbon frame and I was curious what other people do with their seatpost
Posted almost 13 years ago
Hahaha, well, seeing as this frame is shitty, cheap, used, old, and soon going to be gone, no, I haven't applied any carbon paste. If I ever get a newer better carbon frame, I'll apply some. And nice dude, what you got going for yourself?
Posted almost 13 years ago
Is it shitty? I know a guy who rides this only in the velodrome and its a great frame. I just picked up a full carbon team road frame.
Posted almost 13 years ago
Haha, I just say that it's shitty cause it's no name China carbon. It's actually really good though, super light and stiff, but it is old and giving me the typical 'old frame' problems.
Posted almost 13 years ago
Like cracking noises, bolts that are starting to strip, bad threads, cracked seatpost collar. Hahaha, the usual.
Posted over 12 years ago
Don't know where to start...this bike is ridiculous!!!
I'm not a very big fan of carbon but this build is so compelling..gotta wonder how's it ride! I bet it's stiff and efficient as hell!!!
Posted almost 13 years ago
It's extremely stiff! The frame hardly flexes at all and that results in extreme pedaling and accelerating / riding efficiency.
Idk though, carbon, even though it's not, seems sketchy. I want something steel again or at the least aluminum. Will actually probably be selling this bike soon.
Posted almost 13 years ago
Yea dude, I really want another steel bike. :] Have any suggestions?
Posted almost 13 years ago
Well, if you wanna build an aero (almost airfoil) kind of a frame, you should check out Columbus Life megatubes. My other frame is built with this tube set but the tubes come in several different dear-drop shapes. Some are really slick and agressive looking (:!
Or you could go with Columbus Air but they don't make those anymore so it'd have to be a second hand frame!
For my next project, I've chosen Columbus Spirit for lugs but it's a traditional 1" round tube set. It's very light though..
Posted almost 13 years ago
Dude, so I'm like... Do you go to some place and basically choose the tubing you want and they build you a super custom frame?
Posted almost 13 years ago
I can see you're from California. You must have some super custom frame builder around there! Cause that's exactly what I did. In Poland we have couple of framebuilders and some of them are really good! My Rychtarski Ultimate Track was custom built by a guy named Rychtarski. He's almost as old as track cycling itself. And it's just like you said. You choose tubing, lugs, track ends, geometry...
In US there is Koichi Yamaguchi, a former framebuilder of 3RENSHO. If I'm not mistaken, he lives in Rifle, Colorado! Here's a website: http://www.yamaguchibike.com/
Posted almost 13 years ago
Holy crap that carbon saddle does not look comfy! How is it though? :o and is it time to upgrade with the crank?!
Posted almost 13 years ago
Hahaha, well, on the very tip of my Flite saddle, it was all worn down and stuff, so I figured that that was where I sat down the most and when you felt where that worn part was, it was like, solid; rock hard. So, I figured that the carbon couldn't be much different. And for the most part, it isn't. Comfort wise, it's very comfy like the Flite was. But, the back end of the carbon saddle doesn't rise up as much so there isn't as much butt cheek support. Hahaha, it's fine though.
Posted almost 13 years ago
And yea dude, I want black Omniums and a black Zen 55t to match the Super Toughness.
Posted almost 13 years ago
how much for the crank
Posted almost 13 years ago
It's 250 for the cranks, chainring, and BB. I'll include the pedals for an extra 25 and the chain for an extra 10.
Posted almost 13 years ago
Sick sick sick..
How doest it feel to ride this bike? Is it aggresive?
Posted almost 13 years ago
It's extremely aggresive. I can't even tell you how low and aero you get on this thing and it's so light! It literally feels like the bike is just going to take off from under you!
Great geometry, responsive, twitchy, fast.
Posted almost 13 years ago
hey jon so you have 3 rear wheelsets for this bad boy? ( aerosport, cane creek and the white one)
Posted almost 13 years ago
The B43 is actually silver. And only two, the aerosports and the B43. I traded the Cane creek for the Aerosports and the B43. And I'm actually going to sell the Aerosports soon for $300.
Posted almost 13 years ago
Impressive rear clearance. Do you ever get any lower back/neck issues?
Posted almost 13 years ago
When I'm climbing hills and just pushing myself to go fast for longer than 5 miles on the flats, my back starts to hurt. It ironically never hurts while holding the drops though. Hahaa.
And thanks dude, I know! I was stoked when I got the clearance that close. Haha.
Posted almost 13 years ago
Sexy build Jon :D
Posted almost 13 years ago
Dude I am like the biggest fixie phage ever. I have like a njg chain with dara- ace hubs and a sagino stem.
Posted almost 13 years ago
Hey John I need you to text me! Haha I lost all my contacts - Ryan thanks :]
Posted almost 13 years ago
Great build!
Posted almost 13 years ago
Hey, thanks a bunch man!! I appreciate that!
How does that Mash ride?
Posted almost 13 years ago
Np man!
The mash is awesome! It's so smooth.
How does this bike ride?
Must go really fast
Posted almost 13 years ago
Ahahaha, well, I will tell you that it's extremely aero! My back is literally angled down when I hold the drops, not uncomfortable though (but then again, I love being low and aero).
But yea dude, it's super smooth, extremely responsive, very stiff, super light, I absolutely love it!!
Posted almost 13 years ago
That's good dude. :] Would you recommend the Mash? I've wanted one forEVER and might be able to get one pretty soon if I really wanted one.
Posted almost 13 years ago
Yea dude, I really want to get some black Omniums and a black Zen chainring.
Posted almost 13 years ago
Thanks man. :] I wanted to sell my disc as well but now I'm not sure if I want to.
Posted almost 13 years ago
Like, a Hed 3?
Unless you're willing to drop 4 bills minimum for one, it can be very difficult to get one. :/
Posted almost 13 years ago
why silver):
Posted almost 13 years ago
Hahaha, you don't like the back wheel? :[
It's just my beater wheel that I ride around town with. I think that the silver makes it look unique!!!
Posted almost 13 years ago
You should upload some pics with the new disc decals;)
Posted almost 13 years ago
Hahaha, I know dude; I haven't gotten around to it yet; I'm too lazy! I think that I'm just gonna wait until I get my new front wheel and THEN take pictures.
Posted almost 13 years ago
Saddle to bar drop is steep. Needs a photo of you riding this thing cause it looks small for you lol And finally got a real disc wheel I see
Posted almost 13 years ago
hahaha, yea, its about time, that fricken cardboard pissed me off.
and alright, ill try and take one soon.
Posted almost 13 years ago
and yea, i feel like it looks too small, but in reality, its not. i think that they way they made this frame was similar to the way they make high end time trial frames: with a really short seat tube but a top tube proportionate to the size of the frame. so, even the its a short seat tube, i just raise my seat up and since the top tube is just as long as it should be, my reach is just as long as it should be too.
so yea, thats my theory on the sizing of this frame and it makes sense because my pursuit KILLED my back and this one is totally fine.
and plus, i enjoy the low positioning; headwinds are a breeze now.
(AHAHAHA!! A BREEZE! GET IT?! GET ITTT?!!?! :D)
Posted almost 13 years ago
Yeah I feel you on the geo its for being low like tt. Disc wheel not very practical for everyday riding or whipping skids. I had one and only ridden it on the track nd doing laps around a bike loop.
Posted almost 13 years ago
yea dude, i have a rear b43 and havent skidding this wheel once. dont worry man, im not gonna be an idiot rider like the seemingly rest of the rider population.
Posted almost 13 years ago
wild ride. that's a huge saddle-bar drop.
Posted almost 13 years ago
yea dude, this bike gives aero a whole new meaning. hahaa, i get almost too low.
Posted almost 13 years ago
that looks a little to aerodynamic, sweet build .would you mine checking out my build and giving me suggestions since you have had a wind-sore the hour !?
Posted almost 13 years ago
one of the sickest frame!
Posted about 13 years ago
thanks a bunch man. i think so too. :]
they dont even make this version of the frame anymore, that ebay china company makes a stupid tt version of it with front derailleur mounts but no rear derailleur mounts... they should have just left it this way.
but yea, ive had my eye on this frame way back in the day when it was a track frame, im so happy i have it now.
Posted about 13 years ago
i feel you man, it feels great to get what we've been dreaming of. keep it black, don't ruin the main theme IMHO :)
Posted about 13 years ago
imho?
and yea dude, i think im gonna keep it all carbon and black with the silver drive train.
i wanna get a flite evolution (carbon selle italia flite) and a matching front wheel, itll look so good!

You know what? I honestly completely agree with you. Funny to advance in the cycling industry and have my style and taste advance as well. The only bikes that I have owned and actually still like now that I look back on them were my KHS v2, Pista Concept, and Tarmac. And those were the most recent, lol. I'm actually planning on getting this frame again from eBay and building it up better this time around.

jdawg4334 says:
Lol, exactly one of things that I would do differently when I get it the second time around. My seat was WAYYY to high when I owned this bike. Seriously, way too high. And the bars were stupid, I would never run track drops on this bike again. I would run road drops and always ride the hoods and with a corrected seat height, the drop would still be low but probably the same as all my other bikes.
