1985 Diamant "Course de la Paix"

The Diamant model “Course de la Paix” (or in german: Friedensfahrtmodell) is a special version of the normal Diamant road bike. It was built for the Course de la Paix, an amateur road race through the cities Berlin, Prague and Warsaw. It was the eastern bloc equivalent to the famous Tour de France and one of the most popular riders was Gustav-Adolf “Täve” Schur. In order to be competitive the normal road bike was modified with some special features like different drop outs, a shortened & straightened fork and some special eyelets for the Bowden cable. There are three different types of the Diamant “Course de la Paix”. The first two versions were built in the 50/60’s and are based on the Diamant Modell 167. My bike was built on 07.01.1985 in a small series of 15 pieces and is based on the Diamant Modell 35 707. It was equipped with some other features, like the drilled Rasant brake levers, the modified Grünert stem and some Campagnolo bar end shift levers and was used as a training bike in a gdr bike club. It was still in that condition when I got it.
