You are so right. I bought a set of 1" Gripnut in black a couple of weeks ago, but they're intended for the other Merckx which has finally been fixed by a framebuilder (using a different MXL fork with a steerer that is *just* a couple mm too short). Ideally I'll see if I can swap them so the black CK goes here and the Record goes on the white/silver - fingers crossed
