My workhorse for 30 years. Back in 1986, I very much wanted the new Trek 2000. Since I already had a Dura Ace 7400 group; I looked into buying just a frameset. At that time, the Trek 1500 came out. It had (except for color) the identical frame as the 2000, and cost little more than a frameset. I liked the color so I bought a 1500, pulled its Shimano 600 parts off and put on my Dura Ace group. The Shimano 600 parts were put on my brother's Cannondale and I essentially had a nice yellow Trek 2000. I am now older and have changed it to lower triple gearing, hence the switch to 8 speed Ultegra drivetrain. At the same time, the brakes were upgraded to dual pivot as well. The rear dropouts remain spaced at 126mm. I re-spaced the rear axle to 126mm and it still has sufficient room for the 8 speed cogs.
